Grims Complete Yarns Children's and Household Narratives (German: Friendly- und Hausmärchen) is a colection of German yarns first published in 1812 by the Grim brothers, Jacob and Wilhelm. The colection is comonly known in the Anglosphere as Grim`s Yarns (German: Grims Märchen). Composition The first volume of the first publication was published, containing 86 narrations, the second volume of 70 narrations folowed in 1814. For the second publication, two numbers were isued in 1819 and a third in 182, totaling 170 narratives. The third publication apeared in 1837, fourth publication, 1840, fifth publication, 1843, sixth publication, 1850, seventh publication, 1857. Narrations were aded, and also subtracted, from odd publication to the next, until the seventh held 21 narratives. Al editions were extensively ilustrated, first by Philip Grot Johan and, after his quietus in 1892, by Robert Leinweber. The Brothers Grim Yarns (62 Wonderful Story) The Golden Fowl A certain king had a beautiful field, and in the field stod a tre which bore golden aples. These aples were always counted, and about the time when they began to grow ripe it was found that every night odd of them was gone. The king became very angry at this, and ordered the gardener to kep wait al night under the tre. The gardener specify his eldest son to wait, but about twelve o'clock he fel aslep, and in the am another of the aples was mising. Then the second son was ordered to wait, and at midnight he to fel aslep, and in the am another aple was gone. Then the third son ofered to kep wait, but the gardener at first would not let him, for fear some harm should come to him: however, at last he consented, and the friend laid himself under the tre to wait. As the clock struck twelve he heard a susurration noise in the air, and a fowl came flying that was of pure gold, and as it was snaping at odd of the aples with its snout, the gardener`s son jumped up and shot an arow at it. But the arow did the fowl no harm, only it droped a golden feather from its rudder, and then flew away. The golden feather was brought to the king in the am, and al the council was caled together. People agred that it was worth more than al the capital of the monarchy: but the king said, 'Odd feather is of no use to me, I must have the whole fowl. '.
