** spoiler alert ** Knowing before I even started the novel what personal heartache Gin was going to experience with Owen didn’t ease any of the pain I felt for her. Like a lot of others, I love Owen and think he’s great with Gin; but for Jennifer Estep (“Estep”) to take this route when it comes to Gin’s love life still feels harrowing to me. No couple has a perfect relationship. Regardless, I believe Gin deserves someone who loves her for who and what she is. Will that be Owen? I guess we’ll have to wait and see what the next book holds for her. Once again, a lot of action and intrigue takes place as Gin tries to do what’s right in order to save those that are close to her. All the while trying to deal with the emotional ups and downs Owen has brought upon them, which at the same time pulling on our heartstrings. It’s a captivating and well-written story with deep, ever-evolving, and emotional characters that make “Widow’s Web” well worth the read. I’ve always liked Bria, Eva, and Roslyn; however, their love and support for Gin in her time of need made me become even fonder of them. The way Bria and Roslyn reached out to Gin when she needed support from her friends and family, solidifies how far Gin has come from when we first met her in “Spider’s Bite.” It was always about her job as a paid assassin. Moving forward, we see there’s more to Gin now than just her next kill. Her life is full and brimming with love and respect from a huge array of family and friends. We also behold how devoted Gin herself is to those who mean the world to her; there’s nothing she wouldn’t do for them. With respect to Finn, we’ve seen him go to bat for Gin time and time again, but this round you can really feel Finn’s love for his sister, Gin, shine thru reminding me how much I’ve always loved Finn. As with Book 6, “By a Thread,” Estep has once again avoided all unnecessary and repetitive details that plagued a few of the earlier novels in the series; a problem so serious that it lead to a constant stream of criticism by many readers. Kudos to a job well done. As mentioned earlier, we have no clue what’s in store for Gin when it comes to her love life. As to whose ass she’s going to kick next, I’m hoping it’s Jonah McAllister as it’s high time for him to be taken down - permanently. I look forward to “Deadly Sting,” which can’t come soon enough for me.
