A beautiful book but I have to ask, "Werther, maybe if you would have stopped being such a whiny, depressed loser you might have gotten the girl, ever think of that??" (I jest.)

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Clan of the Cave Bear, but I think Valley of the Horses is my favorite in the series. Book one's insight into Neanderthal's day to day life is fascinating, but I am intrigued by Alya's ability, and ultimately man kind's, drive to survive. Someone somewhere out there had thought of the idea to...fill in the blank...(make fire, hunt, weapons, domesticate animals, stitch wounds, etc.) Where would we be without the forward thinking of our forefathers of 15,000 years ago.

Good book about statistics, randomness, and the nature of reality. Nassim Taleb can be a bit abrasive and sharp in his criticism, but his take on life and success is interesting. He illustrates many of his ideas through allegory or narrative in a way that is accessible (e.g., you can have most kids in a school have above average IQ--the Lake Wobegone effect if you have a few outliers with skewed data towards the upper end).
