I've read Ruth Reichl's Comfort Me with Apples and it was hilarious. Garlic and Sapphires is equally hilarious. Also it's one of the few books I've read all the way through lately. Garlic and Sapphires chronicles Reichl's time as the chief restaurant critic at the New York Times. She creates fake personas to trick the restaurant staff, who are always on the lookout for the NYT restaurant critic. Sometimes her new persona is funny, sometimes it is just her writing. In addition to making me laugh every other page, she also makes me want to eat fine meals. So cooking dinner after reading a chapter or two makes it much more difficult than normal, as my standards suddenly shoot up.
