This is one of my favorite books of all time. The story telling is beautiful, and the themes are universal. It is truly an imaginative and wonderful novel, one I can read again and again.
Had to re-read since the BBC version was so unsatisfying. The ending seems a little bitter...?
I liked it for modern social psychology, but not on board with its world-view.
My favorite Faulkner!
The one star is for the potential of the story and for the historic account of the situation of the Yemeni Jews (which made me very ashamed of the acts of my people". I wish the author would have given himself more time to enhance the story, and not bullet-train the reader through the events. More words is exactly what this book needed, and i think the author could have done a great job if he'd just worked a little harder.
I really enjoyed Angelfire but still took my time getting to Wings of the Wicked, mainly because I figured like most second books in a series this one would suffer the "second book syndrome" you know the one where it's just a filler and nothing much really happens but I was wrong Wings of the Wicked was amazing, full of action and shocking moments. Just like the first book the actions scenes were awesome. Ellie is more bad ass in this book as far as her fighting skills go then the last. The only small issue I had with her was she was still a little whiny and trying to still hold on to her teen social life. In the first book it made sense because she was just discovering what and who she really was but in this book I expected her to grow up and leave all that behind at least most of it, especially when your fighting off demonic reapers on a daily basis, you have evil beings wanting to kill you, and you know now that you are Gabriel the Archangel in human form. I liked Will just as much as I did in Angelfire, but I have a thing for bad boys and Cadan had me swooning for him. It's pretty obvious Ellie will only love Will so i'm not sure what Moulton was trying to accomplish with Cadan also falling for Ellie. Well regardless I loved his character and can't wait to read about him some more in the next book. I'm pretty sure there is no chance in hell Ellie will be with Cadan when this series is over but I hope Moulton creates a book just about him. Moulton also took some serious risks in this book. She killed off key characters without hesitation, one that I had actually really liked. Shocking revelations were made about a few other characters one that I could see coming a mile away, it had to do with Ellie's father which I already thought there was something really strange about him in the first book and Wings of the Wicked proved my suspicions correct. Overall I really enjoyed this book, and love that it was fast paced without any dull moments. Moulton did leave this one hanging with a major cliffhanger that only makes me anxiously wait for the next book.
