I loved this book--terrific characters, real immersion into Filipino culture during the Marcos regime. Some brilliant literary passages as well.
I was required to read this book not once, but three times in middle school. In my real life, vicious gangs of hoodlums disguised as eleven year olds were perpetrating violence and practicing sadistic rituals all around me. Kids don't need to read this book because they already know its truths. Middle school 'educators' with half-assed degrees from Michigan State University need to read this book.
