** spoiler alert ** Omigosh! This book was simply amazing. I couldn't get enough of it, the words just lifted on the page and I felt like it was happening around me. I was so happy when I got to the end and found out that the Mayor was giving a bag of food to each person who went to the City Hall. Just when I read the last couple words of the last page, I turned the page to see what else was going to happen, and I was extremely disappointed that it ended. I mean to me, the ending was sort of a cliff hanger, I wanted more but there was nothing left. Even still, this book was amazing!

I never wanted this book to end...1000+ pages wasn't enough!

This series has a very special place in my heart. It was the first series I ever read. There was this crusty librarian at my school in 8th grade, and she as a general rule didn't like kids, but she loved me because I read all the time. I was the only kid in school allowed to check out more than two books at once. I remember she came and got me out of class early on a Friday afternoon to give me all 4 books because they had just come in. I took them home and devoured them in a weekend. God bless her, wherever she is, because though I have long forgotten her name, she aided me in a life-long love of reading by just encouraging a love she already saw there. These books have long been out of print, but I found them a few years ago if anyone wants to borrow them! :)

A good book, whether it is the first of the Pern books or not. I read this the first time back in high school and have read it three or four time since. It isn't my favorite of the Pern books, but I think that is because I like the harpers more than the dragonriders overall.
