This book was my s***! I loved this book due to the relation of gang violence, and the dramatization of my time. The Greasers, are a group of kids who just hang with each other, but are interrupted by the Socials who are a gang of rich bastards, who are spoiled by their parents. I like the book from start to finish because it show the personal relation ships between Ponyboy, and his outlook on each of his friends, including Cherry, a Social.
I read this book about 5 years ago and just bought it again - I still thought it was great. The book has a very sad, ominous feeling to it throughout - but there is something that keeps you reading from start to finish.
for whoever read Henry Miller's TROPIC OF CANCER and decided they didn't like it because it had no plot--- this is that with a plot. the plot is gay sex and murder in Paris... somewhat nonsensical, but well written (with the exception of the overuse of "sardonic"; Baldwin uses that word more times in 200 pages than Tolkien used "peril" in all of the LotR books combined).
