Just awful - It was recommended to me (a former nanny) as a "light, funny read" but I thought it was horribly disturbing. The way people treat each other and more importantly their own children was all the more upsetting because of the seeds of truth in it.
This series is so refreshingly unique, it's hard not to love. Alexia is perfectly pitched as both a woman of her time and the heroine of an urban fantasy novel (i.e. fesity, unusual powers, in love with a powerful man only she can bring to heel, etc.) and having her be eight and a half months pregnant throughout the book was inspired. The story didn't necessarily grip me (the "villain" had odd motivations and received a peculiar comeuppance) but with sparkling dialogue and an unusual take on life with vampires, werewolves and ghosts, it still made for a fun ride. And what an ending!
