Natsuo Kirino is the reigning queen of noir fiction in Japan. Her work is dark and deeply disturbing but you can't help but hang onto every single word. This book is exceptional and I can't wait for her other works to be translated and released here in the US.
I received this book through a Goodreads giveaway (a fact I am required to disclose), and now have a full appreciation for Jeffrey Archer's acclaim as a NY Times best selling author, particularly in the genre of epic multigenerational saga. Archer is an expert storyteller, weaving twists and turns - never predictable - with well-developed characters (both lovable and despicable) and page-turning prose. I am definitely a fan and look forward to more of The Clifton Chronicles!
Pretty good book - enjoyable and interesting storyline. A little cheesy with the romance but it was still entertaining. I would definitely read other books by Frank and in this series in particular if we see any of these characters again - they were quite intriguing and I was left wanting to know more about some of the secondary characters...
