Also in the dystopian future genre. I'm a big T.C. Boyle fan and this one is definitely my favorite. Gives global warming its magnificent due.
It was an easy read, I read it to my students, they liked it, it would have been better if it didn't end on a cliffhanger!
The young woman being portrayed as powerful and yet powerless is one of the key ideas here. The beautiful, witty, yet slightly skewed, young, Emma plays matchmaker for her friend, and ends up creating more hardships than necessary. It is in the end at happiness is found for everyone and life 'continues' in the way they know it. A good book and a great lesson for anyone who ventures into matchmaking thoughts.
