Pacific Edge has its problems - it's hard to construct a plausible ecotopia that's not both annoying and boring. There's a lot of softball and jogging involved, and a lot of irritatingly long-winded town-planning discussions. However, the ending, which is discordant, disturbing, and lovely, goes far to redeem it. His ideas about sustainable technology are interesting as well. Worth reading, though not as strong as the other two.

Interesting, easy read.

Two young people meet unexpectedly. The female is devoted to developing her string quartet on which she's the 1st violinist. The male is a history major. Though the two fall in love, she resists advances that are at all intimate and we suffer with her about this as the relationship advances to the day of the wedding and her fears about how she will ever get through what will be expected of her that night. They're both virgins, and he's anxious to proceed but inept. We read of the various steps that take place as they near consummation, and it would be unfair to any prospective reader to unravel the plot further. It's all written deftly and thoroughly believable.
