I find this book to be an excellent example of both historical and military fiction. Not only are the battles drawn in excellent detail, Pressfield manages to also capture the cultures and the people who make up the story in detail. Epic fiction Persian Wars, 499-478 B.C Thermopylae, Battle of, Greece, 480 B.C Historical fiction Sparta (Ancient city) Ancient Greece
We've been wanting to read this book for awhile now. It's not available at our local library, but we saw that it was finally available on Tumblebooks. We love John Lithgow's children's books and this one is a good one-atee. Ha ha. The rhythmic narrative, with conveniently created rhymes along with adoratble illustrations combine for a fun story. Our girls enjoyed watching this book read aloud on the "Tumblebooks" online audiobook site (tumblebooks.com) and John Lithgow narrates it himself in his dramatic, inimitable way.
I went to bed early every night while I was reading this book to get a few more pages in. It not only was interesting and enlightening, it actually made me happy. It's such a hopeful vision of the world... I'd recommend this to anyone who has considered the possibility that we are all, ultimately, one.
