This book kind of has a romance thing going so if you aren't into romances I wouldn't read this book. It isn't like a cheesy Harlequin romance but there is a good bit of romance in it. I really had a hard time getting into this book in the beginning, the main characters really got on my nerves. All they did was whine about things that people with no money would love to be able to have/do/etc and act like spoiled rich people. But it got better so I kept reading. The book is about two people who fall in love but are kept apart by circumstances that cannot be changed (or they do not want to change). The book starts out in present day at a country estate outside London, a well to do London family moves into a house that has been abandoned for several years. The family is falling apart, the kids are wild and getting into trouble, the parents never pay any attention to them, the mother and father are so self absorbed with themselves and their work they don't take time to do anything with their children. The wife, Miranda, hires a gardener that shows up unexpectedly to restore the beautiful gardens that were once the envy of England. As the garden slowly comes to life a story of lovers from the past unfolds and changes life for all of those who hear it.

I love this book. Simple, fun, funny and a good summer read. Make you want to make some mixed cds and listen to the first music you remembered loving. atleast for me.

This is a fun book to give adults and old kids celebrating certain milestones: graduations, weddings, “big” birthdays such as 18, 21, 25, 30, 40, 50, etc. Uplifting rhyming tale. One of Seuss’s best books, in my opinion.
