Wow. Just wow.

I love The Stand. I love it for several reasons. First, there are many characters that you get to know very well. They are deep and interesting. My favorite by far is Nick, but Stu and Tom Cullen are great, too. That includes the villains, too. I love Trashcan Man. I love how Flagg pops up in various King novels. Second, I liked how at least part of this story is possible, which is what made it somewhat scary in the beginning. While reading this book, when you are around other people and they cough or sneeze, you can't help but think "Captain Tripps," and want to inch away and laugh at the same time. It is possible that a virus (or something else) could kill thousands of people and those who remain would have to survive. Another one of the elements I loved is that the book describes how the virus spreads, how the news is censored and released, how the disease control people deal with it, which was interesting and scary, because the virus wins over everything the people try to do. However, I don't want to give the impression that the whole book is about the virus. A huge portion of it is about rebuilding afterward, which is also interesting and something not seen in many end of the world movies. And the fact that the books tells more of the full story, rather than just the disaster part, is another reason why I love this book.
