I read this for the first time when I was twelve. (I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy) a year later when I was 13.) Great book; I just loved it. In my opinion, it’s an essential introduction/prequel to The Lord of the Rings. Sweet, funny, lovely, with endearing & interesting characters. And, unlike the trilogy that follows, appropriate for younger kids as well as older kids and adults. I really recommend this to everyone, kids & adults, even those who usually don’t like fantasy books. I enjoy some fantasy books but it’s not even close to my favorite genre; I’m very picky about which I read, and I think this (and the Harry Potter books) are some of the most worthwhile to try.

I love Oliver Sacks, memoirs, and science. This was a wonderful book: a great memoir, and I learned a lot about chemistry, a field/branch of science where I am almost 100% ignorant. Who knew chemistry could be so entertaining! And because I’ve enjoyed Oliver Sacks books, I especially enjoyed reading about his childhood.

Just arrived from UK and it was kindly sent by H. Turner. Not so great as I expected.
