quite the domino effect with this story! start with one thing and end on a totally different one... yet it stuck to its core perfectly... i was skeptical at first because i was assuming it'd be just another love story... but it definitely wasn't! at least not the love story i was expecting... and, although it might take a day or two for it all to sink in, i think i might walk away with something unspoken from this story... for just randomly choosing this book off a shelf as a "filler" to get me through until the books i had just ordered arrived, i was pleasantly surprised...
Rebecca is pregnant and uncertain if the man she loves will return for their baby. In order to protect the family’s reputation, Rebecca marries a ranch hand, Jake. Although Jake survived an attack of smallpox, his face is scarred; he is unconfident about himself and feels that he is undeserving of such a beautiful woman. Rebecca and Jake agree to start their new life together in Texas where Jake has family members that are none too welcoming. Sweet Lullaby is a beautiful book. There is simply no other way for me to describe it. If you’re like me, you’ll always give beautiful books a try. Rebecca is the flawed character in this book even though it is Jake who is physically flawed. There were times where I just wanted to kick Rebecca for being so foolish towards her feelings for Jake. I think know I’m in love with Jake. He was completely unselfish about life, not bitter at all about his past, and I could only wish that every woman finds a man like him. Sitting here thinking about how I should describe Jake, I can feel my eyes starting to water again. You have to understand that Jake can’t be defined by words, you just have to read the book to see what I mean when I say he is beautiful man. The story had a few twists in it that I liked. For once, the woman was the one doing the groveling, and I found myself liking it just as much. Warning: -This book is going to make your heart break a few times. My eyes didn’t feel so great with all the crying that I did. -I couldn’t stop reading the book, so I ended up staying up till 3 am finishing it. Believe me, you need to pick out a day when you can devote yourself to this book!
