I thought for sure I'd lose interest at some point in the 900+ pages, but instead, I raced through it without pause. Now I'm looking forward to leisurely flipping through it to re-read it. Usually I only read library books, but this one I actually went out and purchased after I'd read about 200 pages. It's an incredible story of a man who's escaped from an Australian prison and creates a life for himself in Bombay. He meets a huge range of people whose humanity made me shiver and whose antics made me laugh out loud. I literally felt like I too was living in Bombay and experiencing life in the slums, in the ex pat hang outs and in the belly of the Indian mafia. There were passages that I read out loud to any one who would listen and inevitably we would all end up laughing. In fact, as I was reading a portion out loud to my dad in a coffee shop, a stranger at the next table leaned over to ask for the book's title and author. Granted it's a long one, but it's excellent.
Why, oh why do I keep reading these?
