Footbinding is far worse than I had previously understood. The book was interesting and taught me a lot about Chinese culture. I'll definitely read See again, and I'm considering looking for a non-fiction book all about footbinding.
I really like this book, it was interesting and clever and made me upset that I wouldn't be able to go the library and get the next one, or even put it on hold for a while because I was out of the country and didn't have internet access. Scott Westerfeld is really really talented and in all of his books that I have read he creates really intricate worlds with all sorts of cool technology and slang that boggles me mind (I really don't know how he remembers what everything means, I would have to create a large number of charts) however there were some parts of this book that seemed almost weighed down by descriptions, despite this the pictures (which were really quite beautiful) are really the only way I have a clear image of all the technology and animals in this book, I suspect that without the pictures my only idea of what the main characters looked like would be young Austrian male and young tomboyish Irish girl. But I still really like the book, that only happened in some parts of it.
