I know some people hate this book because they think it's too pretentious or that the format doesn't really add to the novel, but I disagree. I don't find it pretentious -- it's innovative; someone was going to do what Cortazar did, it's just that he did it first. Reading this makes me want to have been in the Paris about which he writes and the Buenos Aires for which he harbors such strong feelings. This novel cannot be summarized by its plot. It must be enjoyed as a strangely mirrored universe unto itself.

What a delightful book! It wasn't necessarily a page turner, but it was a great feel-good book with some pretty serious ideas to ponder. It's about a homeless black man an a rich white art dealer (true story) who become friends and teach one another about loss and acceptance of others. And about faith and hope. Overall, a very pleasant read!

I adore Anne Rice despite the shitty movies that have been based on her books. Something about the characters and her prose style sweep me up into this world of vampires every time.
