I thought this book showed the resiliences of children even in the worst situations. I think the shockingness of the abuse the child went through and how long he endured it should remind those who work with cildren to not hesitate to step in when they suspect something is wrong in a child's home.
I absolutely loved this book. I could not relate to the main character any more if I tried. I was overwhelmed at the end and almost cried not because the book was sad, but because It was such a privilege getting to know these characters. There ideals, desires and faults mesmerized me. I was inspired as well by the notion of freedom that Franzen eloquently explored. I look forward to reading more books by him.
