I waited so long for this one, but totally worth it! Sometimes I get a little wary on historical fiction or fiction based on real people. It seems so evasive and wrong. I guess if everyone is dead, there isn't any harm it, but just imagine if someone wrote a fictional account of your life? Trying to put together dialogue and feelings about what was done and said? Fascinating. Anywho...The Paris Wife chronicles the first marriage of Ernest Hemingway to a woman named Hadley. It's her story and one that she tells quite well. The book flows effortlessly, to the point you feel like a fly on the wall in the sometimes happy sometimes not home of the Hemingways. With a majority of the book taking place in Paris, Pamplona, Spain, and other swanky European vacation spots - its a fascinating look at the 20s - American expatriot style. I bet a lot of people want to hate Ernest Hemingeway after reading this. I get it, but don't necessarily agree. Maybe if Hadley didn't get her own life afterwards, and get a second chance at happiness I would have thought differently, but I think in general she should be thankful for getting out of that marriage when she did. Hemingway, as great of a writer as he was, had a ton of problems and I don't think one person could be able to handle him forever, thus the 4 marriages that he had throughout his life. Oh Papa Hemingway - you D- bag!
