Highly biased, as I have a chapter in the book--but it's an excellent compilation of teacher leadership ideas
The curing of warts - what an odd thing to base a mystery and/or a faith healing on. And how strange for a murder to revolve around how it might have been done.
Strong writing. It's about family, culture, tradition and how we all adopt to our surroundings. Jumpha Lahiri really gets into the family, it's really honest. It's really intresting the way she shows the shame we can feel from a family as we are learning to grow in our own skin. I don't think shame is the entirerly right word. Maybe embarrasement at times.
This series is a lot of fun. That being said, I did not like the way this book ended AT ALL. The next book had better come out soon!
I loved this book. It was so like the books I loved as a teenager. I thought that the voice of the main character was really authentic, and I really liked the way that her character developed, as she tried to save herself and her friends. The obsession that Sam, the main character, has with her friends over her family, really rang true - I remember totally taking my family for granted at that age, and it's usually some kind of big event (thankfully not as big for me as in th book!) which makes you realise how lucky you are to have them. Absorbingly written, in a way taht really let me get inside the character's head.
