Haven't fallen in love with a hero like this since I read about BDB's Wrath. I really love everything about this book. Can't wait for more in the series.
A beautifully rendered book reminiscent of Marquez's magic realism. Murakami's hero moves towards his goal through immobility, a detective whose primary weapon is introspection. The intriguingly malleable sense of reality pushes one to question the everyday, even as the plot draws the reader further from mundane concerns and deeper into the world of the novel.
this is an extraordinary story of kevin mitnick, a self proclaimed hacker. he is probably one of the most adept computer and social engineers the world has ever seen. i could not put this book down. the hacking though essentially becomes an addiction and he is compelled to do it even though he places himself in danger; he becomes the target of multiple investigations, recruiting, every special CIA, FBI agent there is to track him down. he is constantly on the run, stealing identities, creating driver's licenses, birth certificates, social security cards.....all the while very skillfully maintaining one step ahead of his pursuers. What is not addressed is why his family could not get him help for this addiction; thought they were always there for him- when needed money, advice or to disappear. I assume he could not be spoken to about his obsession. You do not have to be a computer geek to enjoy this action thriller, but you will certainly learn a lot a out the telecom industry and the legal system. DO not miss out on this tale......
