Lahiri's first book, a compilation of short stories won the Pulitzer in 2000. This is only her second book since then and it seems that she's trying to either complete a series or go back to the well of her success. This is also a series of short stories, although each one is around 60 to 100 pages long and they feel more more like the beginnings of novels. They mostly follow second generation Indians, who are caught between America and their homeland. An even more present theme though is loneliness. Her writing is in top form and her characters are very interesting. There's something that doesn't completely work though. While Lahiri is very enjoyable to read, I felt that this would have been stronger had she followed any of the stories through.
Oh man, I can't even begin to say how much I liked this book! It was amazing. I got so into it, pages seemed to fly by. I found that it was extremely well put together, and just extremely intriguing. I would definitely recommend it!
Now I want a robot sidekick.
