Ender's Game is a classic of sci-fi literature for damn good reason. I love that the main characters are relatable, utterly gifted children; I love that the siblings fight with actual cruelty, like real brothers and sisters do, and love each other fiercely, like real brothers and sisters do; I love that the kids at the military academy have the same hierarchies and keen vision for weakness as all the kids I went to school with. I most of all love that a book that, on the surface, is about training the next leaders for an alien invasion is actually about sucking it up and doing what you have to do, even as life takes away all your crutches.
