There wasn't ever a point in this book where I felt like I couldn't put it down. That isn't a bad thing, though. I think I just felt like I wanted to take my time with it, like I didn't want it to end. This book seemed so real to me, like James and Alex were actual people whose lives had been invaded by my curiosity. I loved reading about them both, though I definitely favored Alex more as a character. James aggravated me a lot, especially in regards to his attitude toward "what Alex did", but it would have felt much less real if I had loved him too. The Henry side plot was also interesting, though I feel the mystery behind that was revealed much too easily, and it felt a bit rushed. I loved Henry, though, and that's why the end broke my heart. By the last page, I felt there were still a lot of unanswered questions. Life doesn't always hand you answers though so maybe it's supposed to be like that.
Riveting and informative. I always assumed that the terrifying effects of Nazism was limited to Germany and a few other European countries. I didn't realize other countries like Latvia had embraced Nazism too. The story is amazing and almost hard to believe, but ultimately plausible.
