Sesli kitap sürümünü dinlemeye başladım ve Disk 1'i geçemedim. Dinlemek sıkıcıydı. Kitap daha sonra daha iyi olabilirdi, ama okumak için dinlemekten daha uygun olduğuna karar verdim.
I loved this book and it is one of my top ten favorites of all time. The novel is sheer virtuousity, and what might suffer under the weight of showiness and pretense really works here because at the end of it all, it is so well written. And the book turns on you, an unexpected ending that made me read the book a second time after the first to see it with more narrative clarity--thematically, the reader and the protagonist suffer from the same limited omniscience—they are in it together; a positional challenge to the premise that either the author or the character is dead. Instead plot and characters involve you like a choose your own adventure, leaving any reader to wonder “who is who?” And the word craft is smart, a bit showy, but sexy and thought out. It sent me to the dictionary several times but it was a pleasure—I wanted to know what the word meant so that I wouldn’t loose a single sentence. By far my favorite book from Amis.
This is a pleasant series of chapter books (4 chapters) that has some nice characters. I like that stuff actually happens. For instance, in a later book, Walter's cousin Howie comes to visit. Iris is disappointed that he's not nicer to her. Her grandpa's advice? You don't have to like Howie. Walter will still be your best friend. My 6 year old likes to read these, and the 4 year old likes having them read to her. We've read ten books in the series and they are all nice. The pictures are a bit sloppy looking for my taste, but they grew on me.
David McCullough, renowned historian and author of seminal works such as “1776” and “John Adams,” offers a captivating biography that is as riveting as it is comprehensive. One of the best biographies written during the latter half of the 20th century.
