I wasn't sure how to take this so I chose to interpret it as porn. Or sideshow curiousity (same thing).
The book has so many holes in the plot, and I won't even start about the use of the greek mythology. The author decided to take only 1% of greek mythology, a 0.05% of roman one and even with that she managed to make a complete mess of things. That should be enough to send the book to Tartarus but I've decided to turn down the greek in me and I actually kind of enjoyed the book. The thing is that I really want to know what happens next..
Pretty good young adult novel written from the point of view of a young man who is also an adopted African-Canadian. Disgruntled because he has been relocated from the big city to rural Ontario life with his parents, he reconnects with both his parents, gets his academic career back on track AND rediscovers his roots while undertaking independent research on some historical objects unearthed while gardening in his new backyard. Quite contrived but very informative about the origins of slavery and the evolution from African-American slave to freed men and women. Canadian language arts curriculum.
