I started this book and stayed up all night to finish it. I loved Hunting and Gathering-- it is the English translation of the French Ensemble, c'est tout..., which is currently a film starring Audrey Tautou. (Heart!) The characters are very genuine and real-- they're just this perfectly, humanly described motley crew of society's outcasts who have the good fortune to find one other. Le Journal du Dimanche described the book perfectly: "There is loneliness, sadness, despair, but also warmth, laughter, and tears. It is a love story, and love fills this book. Beautiful...big, fresh, [and] unexpected. There is something in this story that speaks of our world, of what it could be." I can't wait to read more of Galvada's works, hopefully in the original French!
Really good story. Begins during WWII. Set mostly in England. Some in Singapore. Quest for inheritance of family estate. Some parts predictable, some really surprising.
I wanted to learn more about Yeats and his work...this was touted as perhaps his best biography..an in-depth analysis of the psychology/life experiences/complexities that drove Yeats' writing through his lifetime. Very academic/interesting.
i wanna read this after i read wake
