I picked this one up at the Tarek Rajab museum in Kuwait where an orientalist portrait of Jane Digby in Arab garb and face veil British aristocrat led a life of social and sexual non-conformism until she traveled to Syria at 50, fell in love with a bedouin royal and spent the rest of her life between the desert and Damascus....Lovell is not the most lyrical of writers but the story is fascinating and provides much first-hand information on pre-modern bedouin life.
