I loved this book. I, like some reviewers, couldn't get through it the first time, though. About half way through, I was lost in the definition of quality. So, I put it down for a few months, then read it again all the way through. It was life-changing for me. But, I don't think this book would have made such an impact if I hadn't read it when I was young (freshman in college) and ready to read it. It set the stage for me to look at the world through both classical and romantic eyes. Then, it framed an argument for me to see beyond both of these and to look for something more. It didn't provide all of the answers I had wanted as a young man, but it opened my mind to many possibilities that didn't exist before. I have to say that the copy I read contained an afterward that made me cry.
Great stories it took me a long time to get in the right mindset for. And now I realize he didn't really write that much short fiction. Oh well.
