Much better than I expected. Compelling and motivating. It makes you want to run. Not just run, but run barefoot. It's a great marketing tool. I want to go buy some minimalist running shoes and see if it is the magic cure to my aches and pains. Props to the author for making running, not just running, but ultra marathoning, attractive and entertaining. I gave it five stars with a few reservations. This is an adult book, both its language and content. While I find the main premiss fascinating and the personal stories intriguing, I did not like the occasional liberal jabs at American lifestyles. While not directly stated, he implies we'd all be better off and happier going back to the stone age. I disagree. I also found his argument for vegetarian diets to be weak and, at times, contradictory. Why would we evolve to outrun an antelope if we never ate meat? He should have left it out. The author also glamorizes hedonism at its worst.
