I really enjoyed this book. A snapshot of a time lost and gone forever. Whilst not politically correct it was fascinating to read about an independent woman desperately trying to hold on to her coffee farm. It was nothing at all like the film. As a memoir it focused on events but seemed a bit impersonal and made me want to find out more of Karen Blixens story, what happened to her husband? Why was she running the farm alone? How involved was she with the Happy Valley set? Need to find another book...
What a great girl! Smart, evil, funny... reminds me of her Roald Dahl namesake, with a little bit of mystery wrapped into the book.
Read this when it came out, read the first story when it appeared in McSweeney's under a pseudonym, thought he was losing it at the time, thought I'd re-read it now, not gonna do it now however
