Bu kitaplardan hangisinin bu serinin ilkinde olduğundan emin değilim - ama zevkliydi, provoke etti ve 50'lerde güneyde nasıl olduğu hakkında bir fikir verdi.

Witty, dark, lean. The plot gets a bit fantastical at the end--intentionally so, I think, but I was annoyed. I found the characters plausible, and wanted to find their fates plausible, too.

At first, I didn't want to give this book a chance. But I am SO glad I did! I found myself laughing out loud at some parts, my favorite character is Aunt Toe. This book will hit home with a lot of African-American women because we know how our mamas, grandmamas, and great grandmamas can keep some secrets! They will keep these secrets for generations and then when all the mess hits the fan... well this book shows you what can happen. It was a great read, very relatable characters, and I would read it again.

I must admit, I like Saul Williams performances better than his books. The same words on a page seem to lose their life somehow. Still, the concept of this book is awesome: Saul claims to have found scrolls of ancient poetry written in a language that he eventually deciphers through a magical sort of vision. It is these poems that he credits with his rise in the Slam Poetry world and many of them will be familiar to anyone who has listened to his cds.
