This is a difficult review to write: Extinction Dawn is really well written — it delivers fast-moving action that's exciting and even cinematic. I felt like I could see the characters vividly. However, story-wise, this just doesn't go anywhere; it's as if it's an action scene from a novel just cut out of its context in the larger narrative and served up on its own. Mil-SF fans might enjoy this fire fight on its own in isolation, but I felt frustrated by enjoying the writing and then seeing it not go anywhere. The two stars are my own personal reaction, but the writing itself is worth much much more,
I love Hemingway, I love his repetitions and his locations and his bull fights and his safaris and his trout fishing and the romances he creates.
