A wonderful book that has helped me to understand recent Chinese history better than I had. The book alternates between modern vignettes and looks back into Chinese History.
** spoiler alert ** I was all ready to give this book a 4-5 star rating...until the end. I HATED IT. In fact, I am pretty angry. I don't think I would have read it if I had known and part of me doesn't want to read the rest of them. It's sad but I think it's going to take me a while to get over. Here is this book about love. As you read it, you fall in love with these characters, individually and as a couple. I enjoyed the book and kept reading because of Alex and Lena so now, I really don't know if I have any desire to keep reading...unless there is a crazy surprise and Alex shows up again. I am not holding my breath.
