It was the only Julian F. Thompson they had at the library. I have been hoping to run into a copy of "The Grounding of Group 6" for years as I remember it tripping me out in junior high. "Hard Time" is just plain weird.
I was lucky enough to be able to read and discuss this book with a dear friend of mine, Earl. Earl was an amazing man who was in Italy for the war and was African American. He saw with his own eyes what the soldiers in this book saw and and I was lucky enough to sit in the kitchen with him and spend hours talking to him about it and listening. He told me a story about being hosted by an Italian family for a holiday meal, and the children asked him where his tail was.(!) What isolation?! Earl died a few weeks after we finished this book. He was 90 years old.
