Having read it during my very own road trip (also San Francisco to NYC, though not quite as direct), I'm pleased to say it was thoroughly enjoyable, especially the noticing commentary on places I'd been just days before, which nicely aligned with my feelings at the time. Glad that I escaped many of the shenanigans Kerouac and co indulged in - be it the casual sex (and bastard children), brothels, arrests etc...
