I absolutely love this book. I have read it so many times, and every time I get something else out of it. It's an amazing commentary on life, on what life could be, and it just blows my mind, I really can't think of a more eloquent way of putting it.
Ehrenreich really tries to find out what it is like to be a minimum wage worker in America, but she never abandons her white or upper-class privilege, so the whole book comes off as hypocritical (not to mention the fact that in writing this book she actually takes jobs from people who need them. She also attempts to organize a union, something that puts her "co-workers" at risk of firing--but of course she's safe. And her hatred of people who employ housekeepers is sort of astoundingly dense. Please, don't read this book. Try actually talking to people who work for minimum wage.
