While I enjoyed some of Nafisi's thoughts on the books discussed in this memoir, I wish it had been more about her life & her students lives & less about literary criticism.

I heart Dick Van Dyke. Mary Poppins is my favorite movie and I grew up watching the Dick Van Dyke show. This wasn't the best celebrity memoir I've ever listened too. Van Dyke does narrate his story which enhances the experience, but overall, it was good, not great. Van Dyke is an all around good guy and he pledged long ago to make movies and television for kids and families. So there isn't a lot of smut or gossip or sleeze in his memoir. Not that smut or sleeze is what constitutes a good memoir. He has a very "gee golly willickers, that guy/girl/movie/tv show was swell" tone in the memoir and it got a little old. It was interesting to learn that he was a very introspective person who often thought about the big questions in life. He talked about his faith and how he worked hard to be the person he strived to be. A good father, a good entertainer, and an overall good person. He also spoke about his problems with alcohol and how that effected him and his family. I came away from the book liking him even more than I already did, but I just wish it had been put together better.
