First book in a series of 7 books. Beautifully told children's tale of a 11 year old boy who finds out that he's a wizard. Really good storytelling. This first book & #s 3 & 7 are my favorite in the series. This book focuses on showing Harry going from a setting where he was unloved and an outsider to his new school where he finds true friendship and a place he belongs and where he’s, for the most part, welcomed. I was so interested in this story. J.K. Rowling writes in such a way that I cared about the characters and her imagination is great as she creates an extremely detailed and unusual (but familiar too) alternate world. A fantasy book but as with all good fantasy books, there’s a lot of reality in there, especially in the relationships between the people, or this case, wizards & witches. There is also a message about the power of love. This book series will be a classic. Serious stories that are told with a lot of humor.

A hybrid of business-speak and therapist-speak, this book clearly explains impediments to being highly "effective" (a term which he defines), the personality traits that make for genuine relationships, how to balance priorities, how to make changes, and contains many other useful tools. I liked it. After reading the book I tried to tell friends to read it. After enduring sustained mockery and scorn by people who thought the idea was dumb (most of whom didn't care to fully understand "the idea") I realized that you can't force what this book advocates--a methodical approach to introspection--onto people. You either like this kind of thing or you don't. If this sounds cool to you, you probably won't be disappointed. If the thought of reading this book (and reading this review) makes you roll your eyes or squirm, just move on.

This was a great romance with a few weaknesses. I don't like that the heroine overcomes her earlier fear of committment without the author revealing her thought processes. Other than that, I adored the story. It was very realistic in that the heroine found herself so hot for the hero that she acted upon her feelings instead of her common sense. Young Matt stole my heart, I think you'll find him a fantastic "best supporting" role. Enjoy.
