i'm reading this to revise high school curriculum... i feel like i'm sitting inside okonkwo's mind with the unique view that allows for insight/ understanding of the situation of missionary infiltration. reading this book makes me wonder what different people think when they read it. it read like yet another inevitable tragedy of inconsiderate destruction of an entire community/ tradition/ belief system with the justification of religious Right (or might?) it's the age old battle between believers and non-believers, but in this case they can not, by their individual practices, exist side by side. so then the next stage is the ultimate recession of the weaker group. although that determination is not always "fair", as the missionaries have the technologies to overcome. guns and cannons versus spears and stones. an inevitable historic tragedy. or a religious triumph.
