I wasn't crazy about Wally Lamb's writing style, but I did enjoy the story line. It reminded me of a female version of The World According to Garp. It just reminded me that you never know what drives a person to do what they do; it inspires me to have more compassion for people.

Okay, I’ll admit it. When I started looking for books for my first read-a-thon (Bout of Books) I picked books that I had heard a lot about and I knew would keep my interest. When you are trying to stay committed to reading one book a day, you kinda have to, at least I do. That being said, going into this book I was pretty sure I was going to like it. I wasn’t disappointed. The Hunger Games is a YA dystopian novel set in a very different North America. One that I hope we never experience. Suzanne draws you into the world that 16 year old Katniss lives in and never makes you question that this world exists. You know you are in trouble in a novel when you get emotionally involved (and yes, teary) within the first few chapters. Once you get to that point, there’s no turning back. You have to keep going and find out how they will survive in what seems like a hopeless situation. In order to not give anything away, I’m not going to say much more. There was so much about this book that I want to talk about that I know if I keep going I’m going to spoil something for someone. I went into this book only knowing that it was good and people told me I would enjoy it. I will give you one piece of info that I wish someone would have told me before I started. Do not read this book without having access to Catching Fire. I will have to wait awhile before I get the sequel and it is going to drive me nuts. Trust me, you will thank me later.
