Maloy's craft is beautiful, and I loved her main character and several of her minor characters. A few details felt a bit obviously contrived--the elderly, lesbian, interracial couple living happily in a small Vermont town, for example. Hmmm. (But the story wasn't really about them.) The main story was about aging and learning to live alone and with chosen family, and that story was well told.
Marvelous, particularly as an example of Dillard's sometimes dense but magical prose style.
A good extension of the ideas in The Right to Write, if not as good through-and-through. Like Right, this book contains creative exercises to stretch your creative muscles.
