Time travel is beyond my imagination and understanding; yes even after reading The Time Traveler's Wife! But it is a well written novel with a complicated plot. The characters are unforgetable, though this is not one of my favorite books. I do recommend others read this because it can't help but expand your imagination and the story certainly hooks the reader.
Fascinating. Loved it. As I read it, I had a hard time remembering that much of Joan's life as depicted here is fiction. Beautiful blending of fiction and historical accounts.
I think the premise of the book is interesting, and it's engaging to follow the protagonist as she discover's what's been going on in her life. The big twist was pretty well hidden to me, at least, and the beginning and end of the book move pretty quickly. The journal device works well for the most part, although it does get a little stretched as the journal gets longer and longer. My main complaint with the book is the middle. You know from reading the journal that something's not quite right and that major discoveries lie ahead, but it seems to take forever to get there.
