Some people list this book as children's / teen fiction. Maybe teens, but I would like to think that I would not be horrible enough of a parent to read these to a child. They are macabre and disturbing. That being said, they are FABULOUS! Fabulously written, fabulously plotted, and just generally fabulously conceived. My favorite is "Hermit Wanted". "The Button Thief" is also great and possibly also the only one that would be appropriate for children.

Well...let me at first say that there is no denying that this book is extremely intelligently written and makes the reader reflect on the workings of our society, against all other possible alternatives. It was ahead of it's time and brings great imagination and foresight to literature.... ....but....it is so boring! I had to read most of this book out loud to stop myself from falling asleep! I am not an unintelligent dimwit, I'd like to think far from it, but this book was just so pompous that I hated every mintue of it. How any adult has read this to a child and got them to enjoy it is beyond me. I've never seen a film or adaptation of this and can only guess that the underlying political current of the book has been removed. Also, is it just me, or is Gulliver a complete pratt? He looks down on everyone and everything throughout this book, feeling the greatest distain for his own race at the end, only to be the worst 'Yahoo' of all - one who has devoted his life to his own frivolity and baseness, whilst abandoning his family. I would not recommend unless nightnurse isn't doing it for you anymore.
