A young shoe repairman working in a Florida hotel is whisked into the world of magic as a mysterious princess offers to marry him if he will find her brother who has been turned into a frog. Aspiring to become a famous shoe designer, the young man accepts the money offered and the quest. Along the way he finds that magic is everywhere -- in familiar places and around familiar people.
I'm a little ashamed to admit I read this book, which is part of the whole point of it: when you get to a certain stage in your life (for this book, it's graduating college, but I think the premise holds whether you're getting married, starting a new job, having kids, etc.), you're supposed to have everything figured out, but most of the time, you don't. Nobody does, and hearing that was the best part of this book for me.
A childhood and lifetime favorite.
