Okay so I get that this book was kindof a big deal when it came out, and I am slightly interested in what the story of the world is supposed to be. The thing is-- I don't like reading this. At all. I made it 50 pages and am giving up. If someone has read it and would like to give me the run down, I'd appreciate it, because I'm not going to pull an Alchemist and read it just to be one of the people who've read it.

I saw the new movie a couple of months ago and loved it. Saw the original about a month later and loved it for slightly different reasons. Just read the novel and think the experience is even broader for me now. It helped me to articulate what I love about each. The new: Mattie. The actress perfectly captured the reflected self-- the younger self filtered through experience. Also, the Coen brothers' artistry-- they emphasized Mattie's story just the way they should have. The old: John Wayne. The book: Mattie as delightfully unreliable narrator.
