Loved this book in elementary school. This is my favorite book in the series and the one I remember best also. I love the “half magic” concept. Charming adventure story. Like the kids. Love the magic, especially the way it works in this book. Really imaginative.
I'd always known that Mormons had an interesting history as a religious group but this book really went in depth about how the history of the church, one prone to revisions quite frequently, effects its members today. It was also interesting to see that every religion spawns its own fundamentalists who are scary in their own right no matter what god they pray to before they are violent or hateful.
Really entertaining; a darkly humorous look into the materialism and alienation of modern society.
